Day 11 on The Magical Musical Advent Calendar

Today’s prompt is ‘a song you never get tired of.’

There are a ton of songs with this as a qualifier for me. I’m going with a cover of a classic song. Honestly, I don’t really like the original of this. It’s a bit wishy washy. This version is incredible. I can and have listened to it eight, nine, ten times in a row. I don’t think I’ve ever heard every single word in a song and understood and felt it like I have in this.

  1. You don’t like the S&G version? Man, that is one iconic song.

I listened to this one and had to switch to another tab as I couldn’t stand looking at Mr Punk Ass.

But you got me to listen to it. A first for this particular series of posts, so I guess it’s a smashing success? 😀

  2. This version is interesting. I like it. But, I prefer S&G. And, did you know they recorded two different versions?

I love Scarborough Faire, too. My family (paternal side) was very S&G oriented. My aunt & uncle had “Bridge Over Troubled Waters” as the theme to their wedding.

I grew up with all their music. Threads in my tapestry…

  3. I’d heard of this version but never listened to whole thing. Very powerful! And you’re right… you absorb it differently than the original. It has a very dark, haunting undertone where the S&G version is simply lovely melancholy.
Thanks for posting. I loved it!
